How to create your Bēhance profile
How to create a stylish and attractive profile on Behance, how to correctly fill out information, upload works, and configure your profile to attract the attention of potential clients and employers?
Bēhance is the world's most popular platform for creative individuals of various disciplines. For designers, it's the perfect place to assemble a portfolio, receive feedback from the community, and get interesting offers from clients.
It is the first of 4 articles about Behance. In this article, I will talk about myself, about the agency, how we use Behance, and how to properly set up your profile on the platform.
How to design your Behance profile to get your dream job? And how to boost visibility to build a successful portfolio?
I've been on Behance since 2016, and in 5 years, I've posted 50 case studies that have reached over 300,000 views and received 6 features. During this time, I've received 67 inquiries through Behance, some of which became clients.
How to design your profile correctly
An impressive profile on Behance is a significant professional advantage, and sometimes it's enough to land your dream job. Company representatives or clients you send your resume will likely Google you. They're likely to come across your profile page because Behance has high priority in search results. Therefore, carefully fill out your profile and clearly articulate how you can contribute value to the community and potential clients.
Avatar
It's best to use a real photo as an avatar, because people want to work with people. And when you become a famous artist, you can even put an expensive NFT monkey on it. The rule is first you work for the name, then the name works for you.
Location
It is best to add a location based on where your clients are most likely to be. For example, my main target audience is foreign projects, so my profile is Bangkok, where I live now.
Name
You can use your full name or a pseudonym. I recommend writing in Latin letters right away, the main thing is to have the same name in all public networks, including Behance, otherwise it will be hard to Google you and all the work on your personal brand will come to nothing.
Links
The main link can be a website, a personal blog on Medium, an account on a freelance exchange, a link to your CV or just a messenger. Try to design the profiles of all your public social networks in the same style. Remember the harmonious development of your personal brand.
Work experience
Create a brief professional biography and list impressive clients. You can also generate a resume in just 2 clicks.

If you're at the beginning of your career, don't invent achievements; simply state, 'Completed courses in such-and-such, planning to develop in this direction, here are my works.' Over time, you'll improve your skills and update your profile.
Teams
Here could be your dream team. You can create a collection of participants' projects. There are also external teams where you can be invited or you can submit your case to 5 teams. This gives you additional reach, views, and likes.
About
Describe in a few short sentences what you do and in what field: design, illustration, motion graphics or maybe 3D. It is desirable to add interesting figures and facts, for example, I have 200+ projects for 5 years. The main thing is to write in the first person and to the point. Not many people will read a long string of text.
At the end I recommend adding a phrase with a call to action, for example, "Let's discuss your project".
Language
It's worth deciding as early as possible on which market you plan to work in the near future. If you want to participate in international projects, fill out your profile in English. In this case, it's also advisable to present your case studies in English, even if the design of the website or application is in Russian or another language. Remember, your language proficiency should be sufficient to pass interviews and work with native speaker, otherwise, it may not be worthwhile.
3 ways to pump up your vision
Profile is filled out, what's next? The main issue for beginners is how to distinguish good design from bad. To do this, it's important to improve your visual literacy — accumulated visual experience that allows a designer to build a library of examples and counterexamples. Below, I've listed three main sources that I use myself.
Mood board
You can create them yourself or subscribe to others'. Create a separate board for each category with a fitting title. For example, if you want to learn how to create projects with cool animations, find such cases and save them to the 'Best UI Animation' board.

How does this help in work? The first stage of project creation involves research and finding inspiration. During the process, designers gather mood boards and add some screens to the Figma layout.

Theme galleries
Here's the translation into English: "Every day, curators on the platform select four works for each gallery, and authors receive special badges with the abbreviations of the galleries. A badge signifies that the designer's work has been recognized at a high level. You can view the full list of curated galleries here здесь.

How I use this? Every Saturday, I set a reminder to 'Check Behance TOP'. I review a host of fresh projects in different categories and enhance my visual literacy.

For designers, the following categories are important:
Best of Behance - This gallery contains the best, according to the curators, projects from all categories.
UI/UX - Category about interface design, web and mobile-development.
Illustration - Illustrations are being used more and more in the web and apps these days, so it's important to stay on top of trends. For example, according to Behance, the trend for kind faces in illustrations is Friendly Face.
XD - Gallery of Adobe XD interface design software. This includes application and website design works in which the author has specified Adobe XD as a working tool.
Lifehack - you can list the XD programme as a tool in your cases, even if you only used Figma. This way you can increase your chances to be in the XD gallery and get a ribbon.
Authors
Subscribe not only to galleries, but also to specific authors. My favourite authors can be found in my subscriptions at my Behance profile.
"Behance is a great source to find dream jobs and be inspired by the best in the business to build your cool portfolio. So fill in your profile, build collections and follow interesting galleries and authors to pump up your visibility and be able to distinguish cool design from mediocre copy."
